Christmas%20Island is geographically located at latitude 10° 29' 35" South of the Equator and longitude 105° 38' 0" East of the Prime Meridian on the Map of World. Christmas Island is an Australian external territory located in the Indian Ocean, around 350 kilometres south of Java and Sumatra and around 1,550 kilometres (960 mi) north-west of the closest point on the Australian mainland. Christmas Island has an area of 135 square kilometres. The island is about 19 kilometres in greatest length and 14.5 km in breadth. The island is mainly tropical rainforest, 63% of which is national parkland. The highest peak has an altitude of about 360 meters above sea level.
